It is hard to believe, but my very first bird was an adopted, 31 year old Moluccan Cockatoo, named Baby Girl. Before that, my only exposure to pet birds was through Flo and her small birds.  I spent many months learning about birds and my love for them grew. I had a lot of help especially from Delco Bird Club members and  I became a certified avian specialist in 2009. I  have since adopted another bird, a 1 year old Eleanora Cockatoo, named Pamela. ( Pammy)

Wow! Another year over and several things have changed for me. The last time I wrote this I had two birds and less than 1 year later I have doubled that number! What is it they say about birds "They are like potato chips, you can't just have one!?" In the past several months I have adopted a foster bird from Jojo the Grey. A female Patagonian conure named Belle. She has no leg band and we don't have any information about her except that she came from a hoarder in Delaware. I can tell you she knows what she wants and doesn't hesitate to make it known while still being very sweet! Though loud, she has been a wonderful addition to my home. In November I finally succumbed and took a return trip to Western upstate NY to bring home a bird that I had met at the end of September while attending a conference. Figaro is a Tucuman amazon, hatched this past June. Quiet but with personality and a healthy appetite, we are getting to know one another. I am hoping that "he" will be be a great outreach bird and you will all meet him soon!

I wanted a pet, but not a dog or cat...I got my first bird in 1997..a female parakeet named Marbles. I lost her tragically and got my second parakeet (Freckles) the same day.  It was then I knew I needed to increase my bird knowledge. I heard about a bird club from Delchester Feed, and joined the club. Then the bird fever hit....I got a baby Cockatiel ( JoeJo), then some zebra finches.
Peanut ( parrotlet) was my next baby. I then obtained my first rescue bird, Freddy, a cockatiel. My finch family started to grow, so I had to buy a flight cage to accommodate them all.  At one point I had 35 birds. I bred finches for a while but have since stopped.  I am now down to a more reasonable 25 birds. I took a spare bedroom and painted and decorated it to resemble a rainforest.  That is where all but 4 birds are kept. I am no artist, but it was a fun thing to do, and I love being in that room listening to all the different finch and parakeet songs.
I have lost a few of my pet birds, but they are always with me. Their portraits are tattooed to me.
I owe my love of birds to my first 2 parakeets. They also taught me about unconditional love.

Hello all DELCO Member’s! Hopefully everyone had a safe and happy holiday. I would like to take a moment and introduce myself for those of you who have no idea who I am. My name is Colleen Robinson and I am the Treasurer for our club. My job entails handling all the money for our club that comes in and keeping up on the bills. Outside of the club I work for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier in Clifton Heights. I live in Upper Darby with my boyfriend Frank. We have pets as our children, which include Haven (Plum-Headed Parakeet), Chopper and Haley (English Mastiffs). When I am not helping out with DELCO I am with my mother Margaret helping her out with JoJo the Grey. I am always looking to lend out a hand when it comes to rescuing birds and the education of them. Hope to see you all in January!
